iMac G5

The Apple iMac G5 is sleek, stylish and more than capable of handling most users’ needs.

Pros

The iMac G5 is (obviously) an Apple computer, so it doesn’t function like conventional PCs. Most (if not all) Apple users rave about the company’s superiority, but it’s really a matter of taste. If you’re a PC person at heart, you’re probably not going to be happy with a Mac. If you want a machine that’s intuitive and that has great multimedia capabilities, though, then Apple is probably the way to go. The iMac G5 comes equipped with a PowerPC G5 (1.6 GHz) chip, a widescreen monitor and excellent built-in speakers.

Cons

If you’re not a Mac type of person, then you should expect some frustration when using the iMac G5. Like all Macs, the mouse only has one button and right-clicking is out of the question. Other downsides to using the iMac G5 include a screen that’s not as flexible as it should be and less RAM (only 512 MB) than many users require. Additionally, wi-fi costs extra, which is disappointing.

The Gist

Apple products are as much about image as they are about performance (although most perform quite well), so you may have made the decision to get an iMac before reading any reviews. You could do a lot worse than an iMac G5, but you couldn’t look much cooler. If you care about looking good while using your computer, look no further than a Mac.
