eTrust Antivirus
You get what you pay for: eTrust EZ Antivirus doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its pricier competitors, but fast, comprehensive scanning and minimal drag make it a good deal at its bargain price.
Pros
Perhaps the most attractive feature of eTrust Antivirus software is its low price (around $30). A close second, however, is its minimal demand on system resources. eTrust is extremely quick to install and scans faster than pretty much any other antivirus program.
eTrust is comprehensive, too. It catches viruses, worms and Trojans as well or better than its competitors, and it automatically updates its virus definitions on a regular basis. Newer versions include real-time scanning of incoming emails, as well.
Novice users will also appreciate eTrust's helpful online tutorial and fast, free email support.
Cons
One of the bells and whistles eTrust Antivirus lacks is an integrated firewall. Spyware removal is also not included. Purchasing these items separately can inflate the price of eTrust software to that of its competitors, or even more. eTrust Antivirus also doesn't scan outbound email, so users who want or need complete email protection may be forced to purchase yet another supplemental program.
Other complaints about eTrust include its unattractive, bare-bones interface and sparse reporting or instructions (a pop-up tells you a virus has been detected but does not explain what happens next, as far as quarantine, removal, etc.). However, given its bargain price, these are shortcomings most users are willing to overlook.
The Gist
eTrust Antivirus is far from a complete security software package, but for fast, comprehensive virus protection that doesn't create a lot of system drag, you'll be hard pressed to find better. Couple that with a rock-bottom price, and you've got a true winner in the antivirus software ring.
