Computer Case
Features to look for when shopping for computer cases
A computer case is the enclosure that contains all of the main computer components and computer hardware, such as the motherboard, hard drive and processor. The front usually includes drive bays for CDs/DVDs , slots for card readers and a power button used to turn the computer on and off.
You can buy a computer case with all of the components already built in, but if you want to save money, you can purchase a cheap computer case and build the computer yourself. Many large computer companies purchase computer cases from various manufacturers, brand them as their own, and then charge a premium for them.
Computer cases are made from a variety of materials and finishes. They also come in different sizes, shapes and colors. Most cases have an aluminum or steel base coated with plastic or acrylic materials to enhance the external appearance. An acrylic computer case is typically more durable, easier to work and more common than a purely metal case.
Tower cases are the most popular form of computer case and range from mini to full towers. All tower cases can generally fit the necessary computer components, but larger cases have more space for components. Slim or mini cases often require specific parts that are designed to fit their smaller forms.
An adequate computer cooling system is an important part of any high-performance, reliable computer. Look for cases that come with built-in case fans or a liquid cooling system. This can save you the cost and time associated with installing your own computer cooling system.
Must-Have Features
- USB ports
- Power button
- CD/DVD drive
- Card reader slot
- Customizability
Major Considerations
- How portable is the case given its size and weight?
- Does the layout work? Where are the USB, audio and FireWire ports located? Are they easy to access?
- Does the case have a fan built in? If so, is it a 120 mm fan? (This is a larger fan that will keep the computer components cool without creating a lot of noise.)
- How many side air vents are there in the case? (Side vents allow cool air from outside into the computer, which keeps the components cooler and the fan quieter.)
- Is there a power supply included with the case? If so, is it adequate for my needs?

Summary
