Cisco 2600 Router
The Cisco 2600 series of modular routers provides flexible LAN and WAN configurations and multiple security options. The models in the series include the Cisco 2612, Cisco 2600XM and Cisco 2691.
Pros
The Cisco 2600 series of routers is designed for high-performance office use. The 2600 series shares modular interfaces with the Cisco 1600, 1700, 3600 and 3700 Series routers. Cisco 2600 routers offer Internet (or intranet) access with Firewall security, multiservice voice or data integration, analog and digital dial access services, virtual private network (VPN) access, inter-VLAN routing, routing with bandwidth management and integration of flexible routing and low density switching.
Cons
The primary downside to the 2600 series of Cisco routers is that they are no longer being manufactured. Cisco stopped production in 2003 (with the exception of model numbers ending in XM which were discontinued later). Some people say that these routers have become obsolete for office use, but it really depends on the load demands of your office.
The Gist
The Cisco 2600 series of modular routers isn’t at the forefront of router technology, but they are still used in many offices and can be purchased for significantly less than the newest routers.
