Norton AntiVirus
With its incredible virus detection and removal rate, it’s easy to see why Norton AntiVirus is one of the biggest names in antivirus software.
Pros
Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus offers top-notch virus protection. Regular updates (usually once a day or more) ensure that the program can detect and remove pretty much any virus or variant of virus it encounters, and it even includes protection for the major instant messaging programs.
In addition to being highly effective, Norton AntiVirus is easy to use. A large icon integrated into the Start toolbar provides easy access to the program and indicates whether the system is currently protected or requires further action from the user.
Cons
While Norton’s antivirus capabilities are superior, the built-in spyware scanner leaves something to be desired. And though Symantec improves Norton AntiVirus with each new edition, there are still problems with system lag and hanging applications.
Symantec’s phone support is also insufficient, particularly for a paid service! The reps may very well be helpful, but you’ll wait quite a while to speak to them. And in case you think the live chat option makes up for it, don’t. It requires a special product install in addition to IE, and you’ll still have to wait for a rep.
The Gist
For antivirus protection alone, Norton is one of the best. A second-rate spyware remover and bulky system requirements leave room for improvement, but overall, it’s a program worth considering.
