Dell Latitude C600
The Dell Latitude C600 is a laptop computer, but it isn’t your typical light, thin and hardly powerful laptop. The Latitude C600 is a true desktop replacement.
Pros
The Dell Latitude C600’s specs are exactly what you would expect from a business laptop. The C600 comes with a 1-GHz Mobile Pentium III processor, 128MB of RAM, a 20GB hard drive (which is quite small but more than enough for most businesspeople), an internal wireless antenna and a 14.1-inch 1,400-by-1,050 display screen. One of the coolest features of the C600 is that it comes with a touch pad and a pointing stick. Users can choose one or the other or use both together. Another positive is the long life that C600 batteries enjoy, which is a definite plus for travelers.
Cons
The biggest disadvantage to using the C600 is that it’s very difficult to switch between wireless and wired networking. Dell sells an internal Mini-PCI 802.11b adapter, but it has to be plugged into the same slot that you plug the Ethernet Mini-PCI adapter into. This means that toggling between wireless and wired networking requires a PC card. Other negatives include poor speakers and the large (we’d go as far as calling it bulky) size of the laptop.
The Gist
The Dell Latitude C600 isn’t the most chic laptop on the marker, but it gets the job done. Its excellent battery life and cool features like a touchpad and pointing stick make it a great option for businesspeople or students.
