Macbook Air

Known as the laptop computer that can fit inside a manila envelope (we’ve all seen that commercial right?), the Macbook Air is the sexiest notebook computer on the market today.

Pros

Simply put, the Macbook Air is gorgeous. It’s a laptop that businesspeople and students can be proud to pull out of their bags (or envelopes). It’s not particularly fast or powerful (the 80GB model comes equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo (1.6 GHz) processor and 2 GB DDR II SDRAM), but the Macbook Air gets the job done. Clearly it’s quite portable (even at its thickest, it’s only 0.76 inches thick), which is a big plus if you’re the kind of person who lugs his or her machine around the city every day.

Cons

Unfortunately, it seems as if Apple had to leave a few features out in the company’s quest to make the thinnest laptop possible. Some users have complained that the Air doesn’t have enough USB ports and that the one it does have is in an inconvenient location. Others have lamented the complete lack of an Ethernet port or optical drive (you read that right – there’s no CD or DVD drive). However, you kind of have to look at the Macbook’s shortcomings like you would a pair of stiletto heels. Sure, they aren’t the most comfortable shoes in the world, but do they ever look great. The discomfort is a sacrifice that you’re willing to make.

The Gist

The Macbook Air is all about style. You’ll have to sacrifice a few features in order to flaunt that style, but many people consider it a worthwhile sacrifice. If you simply can’t give up certain features but still want to be somewhat stylish, we recommend a Macbook Pro.
